Help-Portrait Vancouver.  I just watched a segment on the Global TV noon news hour about this group of volunteer photographers.

Help-Portrait is a movement of photographers who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate. The goal is simple; find someone in need, take their portrait, print their portrait and deliver them. Started by photographer Jeremy Cowart, this movement has spread around the world; reaching 58 countries at over 600 locations with more than 7000 photographers involved.

The group also offers some outreach services, clothing and hair and makeup.  Getting your hair and makeup done and having your picture taken may not seem like a lot, but for the people of the Downtown Eastside who haven’t spent any time on themselves and don’t have anyone to tell their story too, this type of event can be life changing.
Help-Portrait Vancouver is taking place December 3rd at the Union Gospel Mission on East Hastings.  More event information can be found here.

I heard there were some fairly major traffic snarls yesterday on a few of our finest bridges. It’s bound to happen with bridges. Here’s the idyllic depiction, simple black & white poster illustrations from a map called BC Government Lower Mainland Highway Traffic System, seen at the VPL Special Collections, SPEMAPC 912.71133 B8623L 1960. This souvenir map was issued to celebrate the opening of The Second Narrows Bridge, August 25th, 1960.

About:

I'm using this blog as a digital scrapbook - a collection of images, links, articles etc.. related to art, photography, design, typography, diy projects, crafts, home decor, and some of my own projects. Hopefully it's mostly interesting stuff, but I can't make any promises!
