Fabulous idea!

I’ve seen it done with scrapbook (12x12) paper but never fabric. Using a filing cabinet for fabric is genius! If you love repurposing, organization and crafting (Which I know you do because why else would you be here?) you need to visit Karen @ Sew Many Ways. She is a Jedi and I am a mere padawan.

DIY No Sew, No Glue, Scarf Hanger How to…

Now that Fall is here and Winter isn’t too far off, it’s time for my favorite accessory - my scarves.  I love scarves, but I hate having a big jumbled pile of them.  I wanted an easy, inexpensive way to organize and hang my scarves.  I’ve seen a lot of cool DIY scarf hangers involving shower curtain rings and rings attached to hangers.  I’m far too lazy to take the 2 seconds to feed my scarves through a ring however… so I really needed a hook option, where I could simply hang them.  I was searching for one of those belt hangers - with the hooks on either side, but they don’t seem to be a common item around my parts.  The one I did find was $30 - for a hanger!?  My solution may not be as pretty, but it was cheap and is very practical for me.

  1. 1. I wanted to be able to hang this in my closet, so I purchase a “robust” plastic hanger from the dollar store.  A two-pack for $1.00.
  2. 2. For the hooks I grabbed a plastic wall mountable hanging system with multiple hooks… also from the dollar store.
  3. 3. My idea was to simply tie the two hangers together, so I also picked up some basic cotton string.
  4. 4. I had this grand idea of not just tying the items together but actually wrapping the string around the entire hanger… but remember I said I was lazy? Yeah, so I just wrapped extra string around in a few places to make sure it was secure.

Viola:

This project cost me $3.00 and only took a few minutes to create.  No more pile-o-scarves stuffed in a forgotten drawer!  I have more scarves to organize still, but this is a start.  These would probably be my favourite ones, so they are going to hang in my closet with my clothes.  I have some other ideas for my more seasonal, heavier winter scarves as well as my sheer and silk scarves. Posts on those to come!

Cool Ikea hack… Ikea is about as high end in terms of furniture as I can get, so it’s cool to see something interesting come out of the ordinary.
